Sunday 22	Legs & Paddles Hi, The NUS Canoe Sub-Club is proud to present the annual Legs & Paddles event which will be held at Kallang Oasis Beach, which is opposite the National Indoor Stadium. The event will be held on the 22nd February (Sunday) and is open to tertiary institutions across the island. There will be a total of 6 events, and the cost is $12 per person. All events except the Team Relay will require 2 team members. The Team Relay consists of 4 members. There are fantastic prizes up for grabs. There will also be a lucky draw, the top prize being a 3D2N stay at Bintan. For more details do refer to our website www.nuscanoe.2ya.com You may come down to the NUS Sports & Recreation Centre (SRC) to get the registration forms. We will be setting up a booth there daily, from 4-7pm. Alternatively, you may download the forms from the website mentioned above. Closing date for registration is 13th February 2004 (Friday). Tuesday 24	NTUISC Gamma Course [Week 1] NTUISC is organizing a group Gamma course for it's members. What you'll learn in Gamma: 1) Outside Three Turn (L/R) 2) Inside Mohawk Turn (L/R) 3) Hockey Stop There is no prerequisite that you must have pre-alpha, alpha and beta certs, but it is preferred. The coach, Raymond Chia, is a profession instructor from Fuji Ice Palace. There will be a special discount of 20% per head from the usual price of $120.80. So total cost for the course will be $96.70. The course will run for 5 consecutive weeks on tues (24 feb, 2,9,16,23 Mar) after which you take a test. When you pass, you will get an official Gamma Certificate. Please register here if interested. Registration closes on 22nd Feb 2004 Sun at 23:59. Saturday 1	1st Annual Jump, Step, Spin Competition The Singapore Ice Skating Association is pleased to announce this upcoming event, to be held on Saturday, May 1st, 2004. This new competition will take place at Super Ice World (Kallang Leisure Centre) from 9:00am-12:00pm. Each event will consist of 5 elements (see below) to be skated individually (not consecutively). For example: if the first element to be skated is the salchow jump, each of the 5 skaters will attempt this element before moving on to the subsequent element. Elements are to be skated in the order as listed. The events will have a maximum of 5 skaters, and groups will be made according to age. Entry fee: $5.00 The competition is open initially to the Pre-Preliminary and Preliminary level skaters. If time permits (based on numbers of entries) Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile and Pre-Novice level events will be added. Skaters wanting to compete in the Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile and Pre-Novice events should submit their entry forms for the April 18th deadline. Money will be refunded if these events are not held. Medals will be awarded for 1st place, and certificates for 2nd and 3rd placed skaters. Deadline for entries is April 18th, 2004. Sunday 20	NCADA-HUSRA CHARITY WALK-A-JOG 2004 1. Singapore Prison Service is helping the National Council Against Drug Abuse (NCADA) to organise the above. Our Guest-of-Honour for the event is Assoc. Professor Ho Peng Kee, Senior Parliamentary Secretary to Home Affairs and Law, and Member of Parliament for Yishun Constituency. 2 On behalf of NCADA and the Organising Committee, I wish to invite you to the NCADA-HUSRA Charity Walk-a-Jog scheduled as follows:- Date : 20th June 2004, Sunday Time : 0845hrs to 1230hrs Venue : Clarke Quay Fort Canning (see map attached) (See attached file: [link=http://www.ntuisc.com/e107_files/misc/mapncada_waj.doc]map-NCADA WAJ.doc[/link]) 3. The Charity Walk-a-Jog will start with a leisure 2.5 km walk from Clarke Quay to Fort Canning Park. Sunday 20	Inter School Ice Skating Competition 2004 Inter School is Fuji Ice Palace annual ice-skating competition and this year is held on 20 June during the local school holiday. The objective of Inter School Competition is allow all registered ISI students in Singapore to represent their schools(local or international) to showcase their skating skills and win awards for the respective schools. Beginners' skaters from Pre Alpha onwards will be qualified to join this competition and we guarantee that all skaters will have a fun time on ice on this Sunday. Competition Director is Carolyn Cherwynd. More information for application on Inter School 2004 will be available in April.

Thursday 25 -Sunday 28	Skate Singapore 2004 Skate Singapore is an annual ISI (Institute of Ice-skating Association) ice-skating competition of Fuji Ice Palace with its objectives set to promote ice-skating in the region. We have, almost every year with Fuji Ice Palace from Singapore in the competition are, Megamall and Southmall from Philippines, Pyramid Ice from Malaysia, Arena Ice Rink and Sky Rink from Indonesia, World Skating Centre from Thailand and last but not least, The Glacier from Hong Kong. Since its debut in 1996, the competition has attracted more and more participants in each progressive year; and our highest record is Skate Singapore 2003, which attracted 255 skaters from 6 countries and with a total of 1260 entries. The events that are competed almost every year include Freestyle, Footwork, Spotlight, Artistic, Couples, Pairs, Dance, Figures, Pre-Alpha to Delta, Stroking, Couples Spotlight, FS Synchro, Interpretive, Solo Compulsories, Surprise, Speedracing, Jump & Spin, Team Compulsories, Production & Team Surprise. Since 1996, Mr Randy Winship, is the Competition Director for Skate Singapore. Mr Randy is a professional ice-skating competition organizer with many years of experience from the United States; he is also the chief referee for the competition every year. All coaches having skaters in the ISI competition are required to judge. Special effort has been made when scheduling judges so they do not judge their own students, but occasionally, this is unavoidable. The ISI judging systems is very fair due to its complexity. Every aspect of every performance is considered when being judged. All skaters are compared with the group, and all marks are weighted equally within a set point range towards the final outcome of each event. Judges are not allowed to discuss the competition results with anyone after they step down from the judge’s stand. All marks awarded by each judge are considered final and cannot be changed. Do watch out for our Skate Singapore 2004, which is scheduled to take off from 25th November to 28th November 2004; it will definitely be a more exciting and exhilarating than 2003!
